Supermen: We are all dependent on the outer space Krypton(ite)

"Therefore the atmosphere and oceans must have come from somewhere else, possibly from a late bombardment of gas and water rich materials similar to comets.he techniques enabled the team to measure tiny quantities of the unreactive volcanic trace gases Krypton and Xenon, which revealed an isotopic 'fingerprint' matching that of meteorites which is different from that of 'solar' gases. The study is also the first to establish the precise composition of the Krypton present in the Earth's mantle.
The Abundance of Interstellar Krypton.
At a time when the habitability of extraterrestrial planets is beginning to be explored seriously, understanding what made earth the only place that harbors life is a key question.

BAD HARDWARE: And that bombardment was so delicately balanced that no one geo engineering could cope with? The atmosphere and oceans are thus not of Earthly origin at all, though life as we know is?
More likely, we are all aliens. The only remaining alternative to that conclusion is: God made us all !

Clever drones killed only 10% of innocent !

Great! There is 100M people in Pakistan. 10% is only 10M people. 82 U.S. drone attacks in Pakistan since 2006 “have killed between 750 and 1,000 people. Licence to kill ?
Recently, President Obama authorized a widening of the drone war in Pakistan. Recently too, President Obama won a Nobel prize for Peace.

BAD HARDWARE CONCLUSION: Peace is War. War is Peace. George Orwell '1984.

TV + Computer data are now prevailing.

2.7B mobile Internet users in 2013 !

The report predicts that by 2013 around 2.7 billion people will be accessing the Internet from 2.7 billion different devices. 2.7B users simply have to be low power because of tons and tons of CO2 it will release.

First Drone War Began Unnoticed: The Beast of Kandahar Bomber

Beast Of Kandahar, F117 like Bomber: The US Air Force on Tuesday confirmed for the first time that it is flying a stealth unmanned aircraft known as the “Beast of Kandahar,” a drone spotted in photos and shrouded in secrecy.
The photo of the drone in Afghanistan has raised questions about why the United States would be operating a stealth unmanned aircraft in a country where insurgents have no radar systems, prompting speculation Washington was using the drones for possible spying missions in neighboring Iran or Pakistan.

The 432d Wing consists of combat-ready Airmen who fly the MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper aircraft to support American and Coalition war fighters. The unmanned aircraft systems provide real-time reconnaissance, surveillance, and precision attack against fixed and time-critical targets. The Hunters conduct unmanned aircraft system initial qualification training for aircrew, intelligence, weather, and maintenance personnel. The 432d Wing oversees operations of the 432d Operations Group, 432d Maintenance Group, 11th Reconnaissance Squadron, 15th Reconnaissance Squadron, 17th Reconnaissance Squadron, 30th Reconnaissance Squadron, 42d Attack Squadron, 432d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, and the 432d Operations Support Squadron.

BAD HARDWARE: Add China and India to secret recon missions.

It takes tone of coal burnt to power a personal computer for one full year

Coal.
Thus, one billion tons of coal burnt each year for world wide computing?
Train long 100 million meters or 100K kilometers. Two and half times wrapped around the Earth equator.
And we are stil not sure where is the climate warming coming from ?
Estimates for specific emission from nuclear power, hydro, and wind energy vary, but are about 100 times lower, see environmental effects of nuclear power. CO2 released is the atmosphere thermal blanket . Thus next year needs much less computing power only to retain the same global temperature.

Intel to delay Larrabee forever ?

Graphics processor makers Advanced Micro Devices and Nvidia Corp. may have gotten long- as well as short-term reprieves from Intel Corp.'s decision not to release the first version of its Larrabee chip.

AFAIK, the only known Intel's delayed products were ill fated Prescott and Itanium (Itanic).
Quite on the contrary, AMD's the most sudcessful products were delayed Barcelona ancestors.

BAD HARDWARE humble opinion: I expect that the architecture like Intel's 48 core Bangalore will replace current Larrabee in the near future. Thus Larrabee, bue bue forever. Intel shares? Down, down.

FTC Probes Nvidia, Intel Licensing Dispute !

Nvidia is battling Intel in a Delaware court over whether Nvidia's current license covers the new communications technology used in Intel's latest processors based on the Nehalem microarchitecture. The technology, known by the acronym DMI, is implemented directly in the processor; Intel plans to use it in future chips.

Does the Air Force plan to play lots of Grand Theft Auto?

Nope.
A few days ago I came across a request for proposals issued by the US Air Force Materiel Command to purchase 2,200 Sony Playstation 3 (PS3).
The Air Force is studying whether the PS3 chips could be a cost-effective technology for modernizing the military's high-performance computing systems.

It is actually President Obama response to budget deficit constraint.
With respect to cell processors, a single 1U server configured with two 3.2GHz cell processors can cost up to $8K while two Sony PS3s cost approximately $600. Though a single 3.2 GHz cell processor can deliver over 200 GFLOPS, whereas the Sony PS3 configuration delivers approximately 150 GFLOPS, the approximately tenfold cost difference per GFLOP makes the Sony PS3 the only viable technology for HPC applications.

Voices from the Other Side of American History

Our land is everything to us. It is the only place in the world where Cheyennes talk the Cheyenne language to each other. It is the only place where Cheyennes remember the same things together. I will tell you one of the things we remember on our land. We remember our grandfathers paid for it--with their life. My people and the Sioux defeated General Custer at the Little Big Horn.

At the very moment President Obama is looking to thrust the United States ever more into global affairs, the American public is turning more isolationist and unilateralist than it has at any time in decades, a survey released yesterday said.

Intel announces Terascale chip Bangalore

This futuristic chip boasts about 10 to 20 times the processing engines inside today's most popular Intel Core-branded processors.
Less cores, but more floating computing in each.
Running between 25 and 125W TDP modes. Hardware cache coherence removed.

Interestingly enough, Microsoft Barrelfish OS eschews share memory schemes in favor of message passing and a kind of database that shuttles information between cores.

Exascale Technology Centre at the University od Edinburgh

As part of a company-wide goal of reaching sustained exascale performance by the end of the next decade, global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. (NASDAQ: CRAY) today announced the launch of its Exascale Research Initiative at the Cray Executive Forum Europe currently taking place in Frankfurt, Germany.

ll of the players in the Hybrid Multicore Consortium are betting that the ramp to exaflops of computing power - that's 1,000 times the oomph of Roadrunner - is going to require hybrid architectures.

A human scale cortical simulation will probably require four petabytes of memory -- that's 4,000 terabytes, or 4 million gigabytes -- and running these simulations in real time will have to perform more than one exaflop/s, or 15 quintillion calculations per second.

What use of it? Four- by seven-foot bay. Nuke equipped cruise missile inside ? So, undetected nuclear strike on the other globe side in only a hour or two! Doomsday scenario.

Microsoft game software preps soldiers for battle

Soldiers may go into battle better prepared to handle equipment and with a greater knowledge of their surroundings after an intellectual property licensing deal Monday between Microsoft and Lockheed Martin that will deepen the defense giant's access to visual simulation technology.

The intellectual property agreement between the two focuses on Microsoft ESP, a games-based visual simulation software platform for the PC.

Oh, s..t: Closed ozone holes make global warming striking

Scientists warn that as the hole closes up in the next few decades, temperatures on the continent could rise by around 3C on average, with melting ice contributing to a global sea-level rise of up to 1.4m.
