Snowball Earth researchers have brought together an impressive array of data that attests to widespread glacier activity between 710 and 640 million years ago, in what geologists call the Cryogenian period. On a Snowball Earth, liquid water would be locked under ice—in some places a half-mile thick. "The Earth is not fragile," Allen said. "It has seen many bizarre climate extremes but always rebuilds itself afterwards."
BAD HARDWARE: Something like a mythological Phoenix bird?

Some of these glaciers sprung up near the equator, implying a very cold planet. Indeed, if ice did cover everything, the average global temperature is expected to have dropped to 57 C below zero. The scientists believe that 80 percent of eruptive activity on Earth takes place in the ocean, and that most volcanoes are in the deep sea.They hope to gain a better understanding of oceanic cycles of carbon dioxide and sulfur gases, how heat and matter are transferred from the interior of the Earth to its surface, and how life adapts to some of the harshest conditions on Earth. Allen  imagines that some sort of negative feedback mechanism—perhaps provided by primitive life forms—turned on during the Cryogenian period to keep the oceans from further freezing.
What the hell magnetic pole position  has in common with life?
Which in turn impose strong constraints on the possible models for the thermal evolution of the Earth's interior.
Actually we don't know. But,as equator is always directed towards Sun, that opened Earth surface toward solar wind. Earth atmosphere of that time was quite thermally opaque. In the mid-1950s the British mathematician Sydney Chapman calculated the properties of a solar gas at such a temperature and determined it was such a superb conductor of heat that it must extend way out into space, beyond the orbit of Earth.
Then we had two mayor events: hot charged solar wind and no usual Earth magnetic shield at the equator !
Frozen oceans literally had boiled in some 50M years ! Yet, during a 10 to 20 million year stretch of time, beginning about 540 million years ago, life evolved at an explosive rate. Scientists call the period the "Cambrian Explosion."
A group of animals called annelid worms developed during the Cambrian Explosion. Today, about 15,000 species of annelids exist including earthworms, marine bristle worms, and leeches. Scientists believe that burrowing worms play a vital role in maintaining life on Earth by recycling plant and animal remains into carbon dioxide gas. This gas helps modify the climate of the biosphere.And put CO2 thermal blanket around the Earth. Dying  animals protected life from overall death! Death of every animal is invented for life survival on Earth ! Who knows that before that event animals have died at all ?
Yet by the end of the Cambrian explosion, all of the eight major animals body plans in existence today, along with 27 minor ones, had emerged. And no new body plans have developed since.
Hand of God in life forms creation ? Seems no needed at all, except for Earth magnetic pole tilt.
