The space rocket is exploding after FP hardware overflow

Example 1. Ariane 5, 1996

Ariane 5's first test flight (Ariane 5 Flight 501) on 4 June 1996 failed, with the rocket self-destructing 37 seconds after launch because of a malfunction in the control software, which was arguably one of the most expensive computer bugs in history. A data conversion from 64-bit floating point to 16-bit signed integer value had caused a processor trap (operand error). The floating point number had a value too large to be represented by a 16-bit signed integer. Efficiency considerations had led to the disabling of the software handler (in Ada code) for this trap, although other conversions of comparable variables in the code remained protected.

The software triggered a system diagnostic that dumped its debug data into an area of memory being used by the programs guiding the rocket's motors. At the same time, control was switched to a backup computer that unfortunately relied on that very same data. The rocket veered off course and exploded.

BADHARDWARE explosive comment: Nice , but somewhat expensive fireworks in my humble opinion. Obligatory YouTube firework video is here.

Example 2. Power Shutdown of the USS Yorktown

A crew member of the guided-missile cruiser USS Yorktown mistakenly entered a zero for a data value, which resulted in a division by zero. The error cascaded and eventually shut down the ship's propulsion system. The ship was dead in the water for several hours because a program didn't check for valid input (Reported in Scientific American, November 1998).

Fake(s) ThinkPads are exploding

Be careful.
BM says that a consumer in Ohio bought a battery from Shentech for a ThinkPad laptop. The battery overheated and caught fire, causing damage to the laptop, IBM said. The user reported the problem to Lenovo, which licenses the IBM trademark. After examining the faulty battery, IBM discovered that it was not a genuine IBM battery, the company said in the suit.

Hacking pussy lovers

Hard times for the online pussy lovers.
Alas, from the very World beginnings this kind of pleasure obligatory assumed
some expenses. Right? If someones have objections why they don't try the same OFFLINE ?
Beside, Microsoft uses the same long term strategy, for some time try our software and one day when
quite addicted, you will have to pay for Vista, or Office or ...

The moral however is: Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect. It simply means you have decided to look beyond the imperfections.

Venus wasteland is the future of Earth

Wasteland = CO2 + S
And we have currently a surplus of both. And lack of the brain.
Now the atmosphere on Venus is similar to "19th century London on a smoggy day with sulphuric acid in the air and a general haze."
Pretty scary view of our future. However this part is doubtful :
Instrument on Venus Express allowed the scientist to notice that the main ions escaping Venus’s atmosphere are oxygen, helium and hydrogen.

GOOD comment: Oxygen escape
is against the Earthly physical laws. However, just as in a case of the Intel marketing, perhaps Earthly physical laws simply don't apply there?.

Definitely, silicon is BROKEN.

Just as BAD HARDWARE first reported two days ago. BROKEN.

Deadly hardware

An exploding cell phone battery may have killed a South Korean man, police said Wednesday, although the phone's manufacturer said it was highly unlikely.

The man, identified only by his family name Suh, was found dead at his workplace in a quarry Wednesday morning and his mobile phone battery was melted in his shirt pocket, a police official in Cheongwon, 135 kilometers (85 miles) south of Seoul, told The Associated Press.

Intel's new processor overclocked to 4.5GHz is BREAKABLE !

The Inquirer (Famous Intel friendly online magazine) forgets to reboot Intel's processor overclocked to 4.5GHz.Here. Why? Because it won't reboot at -41C degrees. Hahahahaha.
And we are curious why it isn't overclocked to 4,5+GHz? Because that should mean even
lower temperatures then -41C. And Intel now seems halts at -88C degrees. What the hell happens?
INTEL's new low-k hafnium 45 nm processors are breakable, being hafnium composite is literally breakable after the large temperature range change. Cool it too much, and something will brake. Thus, temperature safety limits are now INTEL INSIDE TM.
WARNING: BREAKABLE
, handle carefully ! label should be attached on all Intel's new 45nm processors.

Core duo is dying, Nehalem is at Q4 2008

Someone found AMD buyout of ATI was a disaster. Now, what would AMD without that investment do in a year or so? Quite on the contrary, AMD should consolidate itself next year, and should be ready for competition. Intel is definitely locked in 45nm. No chance for yet another manufacturing leap. THAT IS THE REASON WHY IT SWITCHES ITS ARCHITECTURE FROM CORE DUO TO NEHALEM.

Rambus proposes Terabyte per second memory initiative

Rambus will announce on Wednesday a new Terabyte Bandwidth Initiative (TBI) designed to bring terabyte bandwidth to future many-core architectures. The design places 16 DRAM channels, each operating at 16 Gbps with 4 bytes of data per clock. In theory, the total aggregate memory throughput would be 1,024 Gigabytes (1 Terabyte) available via sixteen separate channels, each of which could be piped directly to a group of multiple cores.
Rambus would like to have TBI memory technology in high volume products as early as 2010 or 2011, though concerns over significant power consumption and heat generation remain a primary focus.
BAD HARDWARE: Old Amdahl's rule relates I/O Tbps bandwidth to TFLOPS of computing power.
1 Tflops is thus quite possible by 2011 on my desk, provided integration of Rambus solution start now, during design of the future processors. However, more energy efficient design alternatives are quite possible about that time frame. Blue Gene /Q supercomputer is too an possible user of the technology.

Nehalem roadmap up to 2010

5 Nehalem flavours will be available in 1H 2009. But about that time, AMD's originals (those mentioned are actually Intel's unlicensed copies of Opteron and Phenom) should have a year of presence on a broad market.
So much about Intel's current technological (backward) leadership.
In the meantime, enjoy old "good" Dunnington. In the meatime, Dunnington with a little help of "independent" hardware journalists should fight Opteron - Barcelona? Nice plan.

Dunnington, the exclusively India-designed-and-developed multiprocessor (MP) Xeon server from Intel will be out in the second half of 2008. However, time is in India relative so the designers claim in the article headline:
Intel’s India-made chip to be out early next year.

Quite suspiciously, Dunnington launch seems like a Q4 2008
backup solution for possible Nehalem launch disaster about the same time.
Think what happens when processor fail something in this Dunnington gargantuan cache hierarchy.

Yet another Iraqi's war political victim

Australia’s prime minister, John Howard, one of President Bush’s staunchest allies in Asia, suffered a comprehensive defeat at the hands of the electorate on Saturday.
Mr. Howard’s defeat, after 11 years in power, follows that of José María Aznar of Spain, who also backed the United States-led invasion of Iraq, and political setbacks for Tony Blair, who stepped down as Britain’s prime minister in June. Here is an possible explanation.
Who will now organize attack on Iran? The book of candidates is pretty slim , just like the attack chances.

Here.
All similarities with Intel Itanium are intentional.

Arrest the astronomers, they undermine our future.

Arrest the astronomers, they undermine our future.
Let them stare only into the clink darkness. They are deadly threat to our national security.
King of the darkness , I promise I will never look at you. I promise. Hmm, well at least with one eye.
You know, I am so curious. And I will never stop to be. And bad hardware generally likes so much to look at the invisible, hidden and forbidden micro objects.

What is the hell in common between James Joyce, Dmitri Mendeleev and Alfred Nobel?

Nothing.
They actually never received a Nobel Prize. Hah. I am afraid the same might happen to modest me.

Vista Service Pack 1 is basically a performance dud.

Vista Service Pack 1 is basically a performance dud.

High end Graphic card R700XT has four+ mini cores

From what we´ve seen, the R700 is a small single core and if you want a high end you will have to put more of these together. 4 TFlops of computing power seems realistic goal.

Buy Vista for server security

Though you payed fo XP security too.

Floating point we know, but what is the floating computer?

Actually 3000 of them.

Micron shares are dead money, AMD's pretty low

Finally, a truth on bad debts.

Down clocked Phenom close to top clocked Core Duo

We had a chance to down clock Phenom 9700 to 2.2GHz and check some scores of the Phenom 9500. We set the multiplier to 11 and checked the 3Dmark06 score.
We scored 9381 marks and Sanjin of Fudzilla scored 9511 with Intel Core 2 Duo 6800 at 3GHz.

Sort of handicap or what? On the other side, isn't finally time came to compare the same priced product.?
In my opinion, 3DMark06 is pretty indicative.
Perhaps availability is the main future criteria. We are sick of paper dragons. Or paper birds.

IBM will hit 10 Petaflops in a 5 years

Power 7 will be used. A lot of cores on a chip. IBM has small core cell plans similar to Intel's. Thus, we are jumping into cloud computing. An the overall winner will be ... Google. Even before the year 2016 when 100 Pflops computers will lead the TOP 500 list.
100Pflops of computer power compared with your 10GF PC is the same to compare your PC with electromechanical computer able to "burn" 1000 operations per second. Compare 1Kops software with your current Vista monster. Age of new software is ahead of us.

2.6 Ghz Phenom 9900 has TDP of 140W

HKEPC confirms what BAD HARDWARE found yesterday. Phenom 2.6 Ghz is not made for 65nm and its TDP is 140W. It would be needed a lot of time and work to shave it into 120W thermal envelope.
Interestingly that Intel's high-k , hafnium, 45nm, eat small children new generation quad core at 3.2 Ghz consumes some 150W too. What is the problem? Is quad core too early bird? Do you remember ill fated Tejas at 150W too?

Phenom make up

The rest of the numerous pics look at here. Voltage is 1.10 - 1.25V
It fits in the board below:

Windows XP SP3 RC

Leaked, but expected the next year.
Only some new 1000 patches inside.
I am not so strong in XP patches history, but you might look at the another software history.

Will Nehalem be up to 10 times better in synchronistion and communication latency ?

The answer is yes, quite possible. Isn't that then a sign of efficiency of Intel's current HIDE LAAAAAATENCY architecture? Yes it is. Try to impose Intel's processor latency imposed tasks. Only then you will see how much its current architecture is worth. And why Intel replaces the winning horse.
Now only remains Nehalem to be build. Intel is pretty quit about some 6 years already. Even a slightest future delay might make it only vaporware ready to replace old confident one named Itanic long time ago, after its proven unsinkability . Until then, Intel will not be able to make its systems any better.
AMD will strike first with 45nm Deneb.

AMD wraps out confetties, Intel quckly responds with a paper dragon

Phenom will be available only in a 2-3 weeks.
Unlocked Black edition in December. Faster models in Q1 next year.

Intel immediately responds with a paper dragon.
Intel's dragon teeth are made of non existing X48.
Teethless dragon, ha isn't?.
Enjoy. :)
Watch the appropriate grand illusions video here.
OH men, the beast moves its head looking directly at you. All the time (just as many independent hardware reviewers). Do it yourself PDF is here.
What Einstein proposed that? Must be really weird!

Phenom overclocked at 3 Ghz ! ! !

Hurray !.
Any bad news? It consumed at least 150W after 1.425V applied. We know Phenom is limited to 110A current , so 150W power consumption is imminent and 45 nm version is inevitable before its use under normal cooling conditions. Provided B3 revision should shave a lot of power consumption. But, wait a minute. What about TLB bug? It was seems alleviated at MSI's 790FX board.

Hardware bugs mean dangerous flaws to your and national security

Remember the Intel blunder of 1996? 'Mr. Shamir wrote that if an intelligence organization discovered a math error in a widely used chip, then security software on a PC with that chip could be "trivially broken with a single chosen message." Executing the attack would require only knowledge of the math flaw and the ability to send a "poisoned" encrypted message to a protected computer, he wrote. It would then be possible to compute the value of the secret key used by the targeted system.'"

BAD HARDWARE comment: AMD have had numerous bugs (not counting Phenom king) , and Intel if I remember well, some 234 uncorrected ones (and an internal way of correcting bugs !!!!). OMG.

45nm shock: Intel creates bulk transistor and than repairs its gate with metaL !!!

This structure requires complex processing; creating a conventional transistor structure, and then replacing the sacrificial gate with metal gates.

So, that is why Intel has so many brand new 45nm REPAIR factories?

AMD, Islam, and the 'Fujitsu Factor'

"While I am not yet quite ready to put AMD onto the Boycott Islam list, I am definitely close to doing so. ???
And further, Citicorp is on a hate list because it has 9+ % of Arabic capital."

BADHARDWARE COMMENT: AMD sold 8,1% to UAE, so it is quite close to be enlisted?
Of course, Israel can have, like in Intel fab (and Intel fabs), as much as it needs.
An this is called democracy and globalisation?

AMD Phenoms at 2.4 and 2.6 Ghz tested.

Here.

The first AMD Phenom PC !

Phenom 9500 is inside the case at 2,2 Ghz ONLY. Bad, pretty bad for now. What more at 2.4Ghz it freezes.
The problem is say in TLB. The needed patch is quickly done for a new PC BIOS, however that only alleviate the problem for the new PCs, leaving old mobo upgrade promises deeply in a cold water .
AMD said on the record that naturally Phenom 2.4GHz and faster parts will all be based on the B3 stepping and this one is planned in late Q1. It doesn't look good at all. Seems we have here QUIET not quite phenomenal launch. The real reason is obvious: 110A of power supply consumption. No way in 65nm manufacturing to push it in power standard 120 W TDP thermal envelope. Intel did it smarter, accelerating 45nm introduction. Please note condition on performance in a bottom claim of DRAM 1066 uncertainty. IN my opinion ONLY 3 cores could COMPETITIVELY fit into requested power envelope before 45nm emerge. Write that somewhere.
I will call this kind start COLD BOOT. Only in May next year we might expect Phenom notebook, judging after this pic below.

The only postive side I could say here is that AMD finally be ready for 45nm.
But, will it be ready for AMD?

Test: Intel's QX6700 is better than Phenom GP-9600 !?

Benchmarks show that down clocked QX6700 is still better than Phenom GP-9600.
However Phenom is better in memory throughput. If you will use your computer only
for benchmarks the choice is obvious. Use Intel, it has bigger caches for repetitive benchmark
tasks that could be mainly fetched from the caches.

Yeah, I know. At that clock speed a lot of cores will fail and we will see 3 cored ones launched too.

AMD will build fab in the Middle East ?

The recent Abu Dhabi investment also has analysts speculating that AMD could build a fab in the Middle East in the next five years, Doherty said. AMD competitor Intel has a presence in the Middle East, with a chip plant in Israel.

Ridiculous dawn of the computer era

It is so funny, look at here.

Japan in reach of terabit per second optical transfer speeds.

Wireless Method Helps Optical Communications Break Speed Barrier
TOKYO (Nikkei)--A research team at Tohoku University has developed a way to boost optical communications beyond the technical speed barrier by exploiting a data-transmission method normally used for cellular phones and other wireless means of communication.

The university team has solved the stability problem using a special laser that makes it feasible to pipe data down a glass fibre using the QAM method at blistering speeds. Although we shouldn't expect to be choosing from internet connections rated in Tbit/s anytime soon, the development could one day make us look back on ADSL as fondly as we now do our 56K modems.

Random backdors !

Wired's Bruce Schneier is reporting that one of the four recent government approved standard methods for creating random numbers has a flaw which is so blatant, that the two cryptographers who found it claim "it can only be described as a backdoor."

Background
There are four proposed methods for generating random numbers in the new SP 800-90 standard, called DRBGs or Deterministic Random Bit Generators. The first is a hash function, the second uses HMAC (a key-form of hashing), the third is based on block ciphers and the forth is based on elliptic curves, called Dual_EC_DRBG.

Would our hardware work better on DC power supply ?

I mean more efficient. I am afraid it would. The latest advancement in supercomputer power supply is just that ... DC.
No power converters and transformers at all modules. Thus, for smaller power communities DC is simple better. That is why it took 80 years to die in NY.

Bad comment: Is our PC actually a small DC community? You have switching PSU that conerts to 12V, 5V and 3,3 V. Could they switch DC power supply?. Definitely, yes. However , your beloved Phenom should work at 1,216V. Then yet another conversion? Right. It is done at the mobo power converter. To supply up to 90 amperes to processor. And what about supercomputer? They will have yet another intermeddiate stage: UPS. What the hell it does? Converts AC TO DC and then again to AC.
How much do we lost at all those conversions?. A lot of. Enough for noticable global warming. Because in each moment hundred of millions PCs and servers are online. :(

Con Edison has always been notorious for its sudden power surges that blew home light bulbs and fuses. However, for the past 80 years the power supply stability problem has been solved, I hope.

The fathers of all our slowness : Intel + Microsoft

Finally, a truth on bad hardware. Yes, once long time ago had had been :
“What Intel giveth, Microsoft taketh away.”

But now, both of them take your speed breath, up to the overall system choking.

1,6 TBytes flash disk

The Altima 4GB FC SSD is expected to begin in Q1 2008 with volumes shipping in Q2 2008.
What is good for? Try this.

EU + Arabs against the USA + Israel !

Abu Dhabi bought 9% of AMD shares. For some $700M.
Recently Israel state bought for some $500M stakes of Intel's 45nm fab in Kiryat Gat, Israel.
What a global processor fight.
Let me conclude. Who owns computers owns the world. Who owns processors owns the computer.
And finally, who owns processor .... conclude yourself.
To be sure I am serious, look at Mubadala development company who actually buys AMD stakes.
It has been hacked by someone. Holy s... who might be that one!?
This is a noncontrolling stake, in case the Committee for Foreign Investment in the U.S. is reading. But, what about their reading on Isreal controlling stakes in Intel?
Anyway, wide availability of Phenoms starting next week, can't be hacked by any means.
