The EU would stop Intel from marketing its microprocessors at a discount to PC makers
FRANKFURT -- The European Union's competition authority plans to take action against Intel Corp.'s sales and distribution practices and will publish an official decision late this summer, a newspaper reported.
Citing Brussels sources, the Financial Times Deutschland said Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes had already decided on the facts and that her department had gathered enough evidence after years of investigations.
In the report released Tuesday ahead of publication Wednesday, the newspaper said the EU would stop Intel from marketing its microprocessors at a discount to PC makers.

As slower Core Duo is , faster Intel inside TM PC performance!
This is quite counter intuitive. Lower clock generally should mean lower performance.
Try yourself here.
Seems that Intel continues its bad hardware sequel tale.
Bad conclusion: Strong NVIDIA requires weak Intel.
Or even Via instead of Intel.

Telectroscope, a visual amplifier was an insane telecom idea
Alexander seemed to be suggesting that this invention, which he called a Telectroscope, would act as a visual amplifier, allowing people to see through a tunnel of immense length… a tunnel, the drawings implied, stretching from one side of the world to the other.
By 1890, had accumulated enough to set off with a workforce and tools to begin digging.
The device was designed soundless.

If someone buys AMD, Intel CAN recall the license
The contract strongly suggests that no company can buy AMD or to be more precise, no company could buy more than 50 percent of AMD.
Terrifying :). FUD guys should know what the native 4 core is (see the pict below). Obviously, the finding relates only about the licence use of Intel's BUS. However, until the 2011 , AMD will completely abandon Intel's old stupid congested bus in favor of their own HT communication technology. So, if AMD would be sold by then, Intel might only pull off its licence for the dead bus technology.

Deadline looms for Intel to produce details of emails missing in AMD antitrust case
Sudden police raids of Intel stuff for missing email court evidences are on. Quite on the left is one Intel's pretty loud barking journo fan. More here.
LATEST: Intel confess emails are not lost just can't be found.
That is exactly what police on the picture above is looking for.

Big Brother tool for total Internet control of 5M people
Deep packet Inspection is the name of the tool.
If at one moment only 10% of people is online that means the area of 50M people is under control.
In the next 4 years with improvement of technology nations of 500M people will be under deep packet inspection of only one Internet spy. The whole world practically.
Sun announces B3 Opteron servers

Google makes 16Gb flash chips shortage !
USA Federal agencies have used faked Cisco routers
Faked in red China I suppose.
The concern was that the Chinese parts could provide hackers with backdoor access to U.S. databases, but the investigation found the fake parts did not compromise homeland security.
Eh, now it is easier to me. Except those faked were used at the only 19 gateway points to access any federal agency. Alas, in that case it would be hard to confess. Isn't it?
Anyway we are eagerly waiting Magee 3rd effort ( The third time God helps - Bosnian tale) named Examiner to find this possible breach.Or his Indian stuff simply doesn't read Bosnian tales?

Amazing Columbia shuttle HD recovery
Columbia's fragments were painstakingly and exhaustively collected. Amongst them was a 400MB Seagate hard drive which was in the sort of shape you think it would be in after being in an explosive fire and then hurled to earth from several miles up with a ferocious impact.
The Kroll people managed to recover 90 percent or so of the 400MB of data from the drive with its cracked and burned casing.
Badhardware: 400MB HD in 2003? Today 400GB HD is a home PC standard.
In HP servers it is 820 TB.
Currently, 45% of all hard drives in the world, from PCs to data centers, are sold by HP.
Climate modellers need 100 Pflops supercomputer.
The modellers say they need a centre with computing power of 100 petaflops – two thousand times greater they have access to today.

Hydra better than Nehalem
AMD calls Rev D cores Hydra and this are the chips that will really go against Nehalem.
200 Pflops supercomputer
A 200 PFlops system that is built on today’s common architecture could cost up to $1 billion and consume 200 Mega Watts – which is the equivalent of what a city with 100,000 people consumes.
According to the researchers, such a computer would make global climate change predictions more understandable and more credible.
Badhardware comment: Yeah more understandable global climate change today means additional 200 MW poured in. :)
Intel paid off Acer, Dell, Gateway, major Japanese manufacturers, and system builders and distributors "to close their doors to AMD."
Most of the details in the 108-page document, unsealed Monday, have been blacked out, due to a protective order restricting the disclosure of trade secrets and other confidential dealings involving the parties in the suit. AMD sued Intel in June 2005, accusing the chipmaker of illegally using its monopoly to shut AMD out of the market.

AMD must double market share to survive
Intel to begin chip production on 450 mm wafers in 2012
Yes, 2012 is 10 years later, but hmm who will in industry follow Intel? Only Samsung or no one else?
That will make 450 mm development costs prohibitively high for Intel. And if something fail, that might be complete disaster, only 4 years ahead.

Intel announced long distance 10 Gb wired Ethernet card
Actually 10 GbE wire cards are some time at the market, but they were wire length restricted to 10 meters range only.
Now already installed data center ethernet wire cablings may be used for 10 Gb Ethernet. For a modest price of $1K. Next year the prices should drop at least 2 times.
In 2002 1 Gb Ethernet card gained the same status ahead of 100Mb Ethernet cards.
