Spam Network Shut Down
Microsoft Corp. and federal law enforcement agents seized computer equipment from Internet hosting facilities across the U.S. in a sweeping legal attack designed to cripple the leading source of junk email on the Internet.
Microsoft launched the raids as part of a civil lawsuit filed in federal court in Seattle in early February against unnamed operators of the Rustock "botnet," a vast network of computers around the globe infected with malicious software that allows its masterminds to distribute enormous volumes of spam, peddling everything from counterfeit software to pharmaceuticals.

New compact laser diode breakthrough
IBM has another complementary solution. The modulator's waveguide structure, as well as the size of the device are both limited by the wavelength of light used. IBM's current generation coupler has a 500nm waveguide, and the device itself is a mere 200 micrometers long, half the wavelength of the laser's light. This makes it easily small enough to fit between current generation multi-core processor cores.
The device is many times more efficient than current bus technology. IBM bills speeds at 100 to 1,000 times faster than electrical, with energy consumption of 50 milliwatts or less.

Cell phones are 'Stalin's dream,' says free software movement founder
"I don't have a cell phone. I won't carry a cell phone," says Stallman, founder of the free software movement and creator of the GNU operating system. "It's Stalin's dream. Cell phones are tools of Big Brother. I'm not going to carry a tracking device that records where I go all the time, and I'm not going to carry a surveillance device that can be turned on to eavesdrop."
Stallman firmly believes that only free software can save us from our technology, whether it be in cell phones, PCs, tablets or any other device. And when he talks about "free," he's not talking about the price of the software -- he's talking about the ability to use, modify and distribute software however you wish.

BAD HARDWARE: Intel's Rockwell 2014 will integrate in one die all what Haswell did in 2. So, what use of 3D? at Intel? HAswell FMA will use 4 operands FMA. That will require increased bandwidth and 16MB L3 accessed in a more direct way then previously. Oh by the way, IBM uses FMA since 1990 ! At CeBIT, IBM boss Palmisano tactfully covered up the slip-up of the German chancellor Angela Merkel who, during the presentation of IBM's 3D prototype chip, had asked him, "Do you take that from Intel?" His reply, "No, ours are better", was almost drowned by the audience's laughter.

3D DRAM integration technology in 2013 !
Experts define a true 3-D package as one that stacks various chips vertically and then connects them by deploying TSVs. The aim is to shorten the interconnections between the chips, reduce die sizes and boost device bandwidths.
One of the big and recent announcements in the arena came from Xilinx Inc., which recently discussed a "stacked silicon interconnect" FPGA.
However, there are several problems with TSV technology: Lack of EDA design tools; complexity of designs; integration of assembly and test; cost; and lack of standards.

AMD Finalizes Shipment Dates for Next-Gen Chips.
Will begin commercial shipments of its high-end FX-series chips based on Bulldozer micro-architecture in the second half of June and will initiate supplies of A-series code-named Llano accelerated processing units (APUs) in early July.
The code-named Zambezi processors based on Bulldozer micro-architecture with four, six or eight cores will belong to FX-series and will be sold under AMD Vision Black and AMD Vision Ultimate labels.
AMD's product family will include FX-series, A-series and E-series microprocessors.
By contrast, Intel's largest selling (by volume) product continues to be Pentium branded CPUs, manufactured at 45nm/65nm, and in general, Intel takes several years to transition to a new generation of CPUs.
