US nuclear deterrent strategy favors ability to launch over the danger of unauthorized launch

That's the real problem that can cause WWIII.

Intel Spearheads Open Data Alliance For Cloud Users

A group of 70 current and potential cloud users has banded together to form the Open Data Center Alliance, a group that will issue a roadmap on cloud interoperability in early 2011.

The participation by Intel is a sign of how uniformly cloud data centers rely on the x86 architecture. Even IBM, manufacturer of the Power series of microprocessors, built its Research Triangle Park cloud on x86 servers.

Speeding cloud development and interoperability is likely to speed Intel and AMD chip consumption. That’s why Intel orchestrated the alliance. It will set best practices and standards that allow enterprises to proceed with cloud operations.

The group is looking to provide guidance on building cloud data centers and standards for the interoperability of public and private clouds by 2015.

Finally: China says it has built the world's fastest supercomputer, overtaking United States

The Tianhe-1 machine housed at the National Center for Supercomputing in the northern port city of Tianjin is capable of sustained computing of 2.507 petaflops, the equivalent of 2,507 trillion calculations, per second.

As is typical of new supercomputers, the Tianhe-1a uses the latest processors to gain a speed edge. They include a 2.93 GHz version of the six-core Intel Westmere processor and the Nvidia Fermi M2050.

The Tianhe-1a is built up from 7,168 nodes. Each node contains two Westmere processors, one Fermi graphics card and 32 Gbytes memory.

BAD HARDWARE WEEK: Actually, we already had a case with Japan. However, this one is much worse for US computing supremacy.

Google now second-largest ISP, carries 6.4% of Internet traffic

Only one tier 1 provider – a wholesaler to other ISPs – carries more Internet traffic on its backbone network than Google does, and this wholesaler (Arbor declined to identify the provider) carries a lot of Google traffic, too.
The Arbor Networks’ data points to a future where Internet traffic consolidates on the networks of a handful of carriers and content providers – what Arbor calls “hyper giants.”

Year 2010: 1B transistors per human !

Did you know that, by 2010, there will be one billion transistors per human? Or that only 3% of power used by data centers is used for computing?

What is Google spending $2.9 billion on?

But that is what the Internet search giant is (reportedly) getting ready to cough up for a building located on Eighth Avenue in NYC’s swanky Chelsea neighborhood.

Control computer error halted US nukes !

Engineers believe that the outage at F.E. Warren Air Force Base was caused by a hardware failure in a launch control computer.
Adm. Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was immediately briefed about the incident Saturday. He in turn told Defense Secretary Robert Gates. President Obama was briefed Tuesday morning.

Something is slow in the Kingdom

Many UK consumers may be unable to benefit from the new generation of "super-fast" broadband ISP services because of a bottleneck with old computer hardware and routers, with slow Wi-Fi (wireless) networks being a particular pain. Virgin Media raised this issue at its 50Mbps launch last year and yesterday saw BT talking about the same problem.

AMD looks to make a full comeback in 2011

In summary, the well-patronised AMD TFE event in Taipei this year, and the more-than-usual smiling faces of the AMD gang, willing to share more stories on the upcoming stuff, make a good backdrop for the post-Christmas product announcements rush. Intel will have many new goodies to show, too, providing all the right ingredients for an interesting holiday season.

Licence to kill: How to kill people with software that doesn't work

When the software firm then refused to rush the job, it's claimed, Netezza illegally and hastily reverse-engineered Predator IISi's code to deliver a version that produced locations inaccurate by up to 13 metres. Despite knowing about the miscalculations, the CIA accepted the software, court submissions indicate.

BAD HARDWARE WEEK: Well informed CIA now has a licence to kill anyone? Killings out of target range are later simply called by Obama's PR officials: collaterals.
And kids killing inevitably creates a tide of new terrorism and that war spiral abroad is so never ending.
In the rest of world and in international tribunal that is however simply called war crimes. And President Obama seems like a responsible person. Knowing that, he is now in the range of possible domestic impeachment.

You have no right to look at my pre 9/11 Presidential records

On November 1, 2001, Bush issued Executive Order 13233, limiting public access to the records of former U.S. presidents. The Bush executive order also includes the documents of former vice presidents. In 2009, it was announced that as many as 22 million emails may have been deleted by the Bush administration.

BAD HARDWARE: No one has had a right to look for what Presdent and vice president did before the 9/11 ? They abolished themself, or something much worse? That means the next President had no right to look at what Bush did in his mandate 2000-2004 !

We are 49th !

As of September 23, 2010, the United States ranked forty-ninth for both male and female life expectancy combined.
Just to underscore the rapidity of the decline, as recently as 1999, the U.S. was ranked by the World Health Organization as 24th in life expectancy. It's now 49th.

There is, however, some good news: the U.S. is now in fifth place in total number of executions, behind only China, Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, and comfortably ahead of Yemen and Sudan.

Bad Hardware: Hard to believe that legal executions rate is so high that they it is noticeable in
national overall life expectancy. However, US coverage map below with McDonalds restaurants obviously is. 115 miles is the largest McDonalds black zone for addicted.
