In Only the Paranoid survive, Intel's former CEO Andy Grove recounts the dilemma of launching two largely incompatible CPUs at the same time:
We now had two very powerful chips that we were introducing at just about the same time: the 486, largely based on CISC technology and compatible with all the PC software, and the i860, based on RISC technology, which was very fast but compatible with nothing. We didn't know what to do. So we introduced both, figuring we'd let the marketplace decide. However, things were not that simple. Supporting a microprocessor architecture with all the necessary computer-related products – software, sales, and technical support – takes enormous resources. Even a company like Intel had to strain to do an adequate job with just one architecture. And now we had two different and competing efforts, each demanding more and more internal resources. Development projects have a tendency to want to grow like the proverbial mustard seed. The fight for resources and for marketing attention (for example, when meeting with the customer, which processor should we highlight) led to internal debates that were fierce enough to tear apart our microprocessor organization. Meanwhile, our equivocation caused our customers to wonder what Intel really stood for, the 486 or i860?

AMD'a 14nm by the end of 2014 !
As far as product launches are concerned, we can expect a launch date of the new products based upon the TSMC 20nm and GLOFO 14nm FinFET processes by late 2014 or early 2015 since they are only currently being tapped out.
After all, ARM is expected to move from 28nm to 20nm fabrication on the Cortex-A15 and 64-bit, ARMv8 Cortex-A57 designs by 2014. The micro-server and desktop-targeted A57 will support a big.LITTLE arrangement with the similarly ARMv8-based Cortex-A53 smartphone/tablet SoC. Both should advance to 14nm fabrication by 2015 or 2016.

99% BAD HARDWARE WEEK: However AMD's 14nm XM FinFET SOI technology doesn't seem like a Intel's 14 nm vaporware by the end of this year. If tic toc still works.
The 14XM FinFET node is a low power product aimed at mobile applications at 14 nm. It will not be a good choice for large, power hungry products like GPUs, but it will be appropriate for low power SOCs.
I fully expect to see ARMv8 based processors utilize this node.

We all know that after scaling problems in past Intel can't be surprised after introduction of development fabs. But now it is obviously in scaling problems, just as BAD HARDWARE predicted. What is really behind Intel's widely shut lips ?

Former Microsoft Privacy Chief Says He No Longer Trusts The Company
In the two years since leaving Microsoft, Bowden has ceased carrying a cell phone and become a staunch open source user, claiming that he no longer trusts a program unless he can see the source.
Long term, the problem could lead to the construction of digital firewalls, in which the United States is effectively isolated behind protective nodes built by local governments to scrub and redirect traffic away from potential capture points. This is directly in opposition to the central concept of the Internet, which is a dynamic structure capable of responding to outages or damage by routing around the problem.

There are plenty of elliptic curves to choose from. A cryptosystem based on a random one is virtually impregnable and hence protects our privacy. But it turns out that there are some elliptic curves that look random but actually allow for easy decryption; that's an example of a backdoor. It's a nontrivial mathematical problem to generate such curves (equipped with some extra data), but it can be done. And according to the reports, the NSA has been pushing the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the body that sets encryption standards in the United States, and various vendors to adopt such special elliptic curves since as early as 2006, knowing full well that they were prone to attacks.
