4K byte disk sectors mean the end of XP based new computers

Because it works only with 512 Byte ones.

Hmm, 4TB disks by then will have the same number clusters like 512GB 2.5inch disks today.
That means dare I say,  nettop will soon run 4TB disk without problems? Note quite sure, but 2TB will for sure in 2011.
Warning: In case of performance problems in that case simply use 2.5inch  SSD as primary disk. And  8GB DRAM with its large parts reserved for I/O cache.
Currently, the 100GB A-DATA S599 is dangerously close to the capacity of the 80GB drives, but the extra 20GB should be just enough to keep a very large majority of users on notebooks satisfied with the capacity
750GB , 3 times smaller disk storage  is already available.

Two former Madoff computer programmers indicted

The court document specifically alleges that, at Madoff's request, O'Hara

Something undoubtably man made is finally found on Moon !. No, it is not Apollo lander and it is not a game

Lunokhod 2 rover is found.
The 37-year-old space mystery solved. However, in a strange twist of fate, the rover is actually owned by a British-born gaming entrepreneur.
The astronaut told Wired that there are bonus prizes for teams that can bring images back of any historical site on the moon, and perhaps this could now include images of the Lunokhod 2.

BAD HARDWARE:  Lunokhod 2? What about 6 of the Apollo landing sites? Hard to find them though much bigger and their location has been so well known? This pic below has pretty low resolution (4x enlargement), even lower than Lunokhod. Strange. No Lunar rover visible, though the US flag is !? The astronauts took a ran from it to a Lunar ascending stage?

Google is using that machine to push the limits on translation

Google is using that machine to push the limits on translation technology.
Last month, for example, it said it was working to combine its translation tool with image analysis, allowing a person to, say, take a cellphone photo of a menu in German and get an instant English translation.

But in the mid-1990s, researchers began favoring a so-called statistical approach. They found that if they fed the computer thousands or millions of passages and their human-generated translations, it could learn to make accurate guesses about how to translate new texts. It turns out that this technique, which requires huge amounts of data and lots of computing horsepower, is right up Google’s alley.

Cisco rolls router for 100 Gbit core networks

Cisco Systems announced its next generation core router, the CRS-3. The new system can route 100 Gbit/second streams and sports an aggregate throughput of up to 322 Terabits/second.

AT&T Labs said it has tested the system in field trials as part of its plans to transition from 40 to 100 Gbit/s backbone networks over the next few years. In February, industry groups gave updates about the status of work on first generation100 Gbit Ethernet and faster serial links for follow on products.

Or some ghost in the machine or a hacker caused a software glitch that made your car run away and the brakes suddenly simultaneously fail? Not in the least bit likely.

USB 3.0 has finally arrived

The first round of USB 3.0 cards and devices works with Windows Vista and Windows 7; Apple hasn't decided whether to support the new standard. The basic software for USB 3.0 has been in the Linux kernel since last fall, and the needed drivers are slowly coming out.

There are already a few USB 3.0 devices available. To test them, I used a Lenovo ThinkPad W510 with USB 3.0 built in. I tried out a variety of new devices, including the Buffalo DriveStation USB 3.0 HD-HXU3 external hard drive; a StarTech SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to SATA Hard Drive Docking Station in combination with my current Western Digital WD Caviar Blue external drive; and a Seagate BlackArmor PS 110 USB 3.0 Performance Kit, a portable hard drive that includes its software on a USB 3.0 ExpressCard.
