Well , LEM had a switch auto / manual landing  . What if Apollo 11 left it intentionally in position AUTO? . Should astronauts in that case be needed at all ?  No. All of its crew could simply stay in command Apollo module.
Mission motto was pretty indicative:   "The Dress Rehearsal... "

Huston we have a problem ! Use Scotch tape for fix, please ! Beside, you two could simply lift your rover on Moon by bare hands, provided you are not on Earth. Don't forget Moon's lower gravity advantages !

 99% BAD HARDWARE WEEK: Apollo 11 landed on dusty Moon soil and NASA previously never checked will its 15 tonnes on 4 pads simply sink into the soil. OK, that is only 2,5 tonnes on moon, but then how they tested LM on Earth with consequently so less ascend trust needed? Not to mention the very moment when ascend stage is launched. Well, that is call LUCK. Or cover landing was really necessary. What if turtles landed on Moon first? RED TURTLES !
