Back to 1993: Core duo 5 times more power efficient than P4

Finally, a truth on bad hardware from the latest IDF Japan. Personally, I have known it since many years. Core duo is obviously power optimized PIII. And it is alas, still equally efficient like the first Pentium at 60Mhz in 1993. So what is actually new in this latest new generation Pentium microarchitecure? PIII was built in 180nm technology. Core Duo is in 65nm. Thus, is it quite natural that three times smaller transistor is 3 times faster, isn't it !? Let me remind you: PIII had 1,1Ghz max clock and Conroe - 3,3Ghz . Congrats only on marketing breaktrough, after the long 13 years.
Thus, it is quite natural that for the 50% less power consumption dual core 2,67Ghz Conroe is 50% percent faster than the comparable dual core Pentium D at 3,4Ghz. I mean, Conroe is not so much better, but P4 is actually worse the it should be.

A recent survey commissioned by AMD said that 70 out of 100 I.T. shops track power usage as an important measure of cost, performance per watt, and decision making. AMD-powered products, even on 90 nm, still offer the best thermal envelope and greatest performance-per-watt in the server spaces.
