AMD 65nm K8L Deerhound in last detail !

On August 15, 2006, at the launch of the first Socket F(1207) dual core Opterons, AMD announced that the firm has reached the final design stage (i.e. Tape-out) of K8L quad-core Opterons, codenamed Deerhound. This will now go to the test and validation stage; and will be available for samples in the next several months. Please note peak 100 Amperes of needed power supply. At 1,25V voltage applied that gives 125Watts of Deerhound's TDP.
The K8L core will also have a 32-byte prefetch (versus 16 right now), 48-bit addressing with 1GB pages.
Each of the cores thus will access entire 1GB of memory directly ?
On the other side, I am not sure is it revison H or revision B.

Let me in the end to citate distinguished TheInq journalist:
Anyone want a HyperTransport-based quad-socket quad-core 45 nm IntelCore server, combining the superb new IntelCore execution with liberated system bandwidth potential? I sure wouldn't mind one. µ

Well, what about original AMD quad socket Deerhound? Anyone want it? However, sometimes original is still better than the me too copy. :)
Especially in 2007 , when Intel will be still without serious competition to AMD's HT.
Actually, without any kind of hypertransport, that will remain only distant subject of Intel's wishes until sometime in 2008. Briefly, Intel has supposedly Ferari engine for performance race with AMD, but seems without adequate bus running tyres. :)
Not after me ,but according to PathScale, AMD's HyperTransport interconnect provides greater overall bandwidth and scalability over anything else currently available.

AMD Quad FX is here at 3Ghz !

Joke of the year 2006: Intel is among Fortune 500 best companies work for.

With most common year 2006 base salary (professional) of whopping $ 101,816.0
Is that so bad? No, not at all. But, as an old Jewish tales says: God cursed you to have, than not have. Intel will lay off 10500 this and the next year. So, that fact is the joke of the year.

OMG, power hungry Google needs nuke plant

The Information Factories
The desktop is dead. Welcome to the Internet cloud, where massive facilities across the globe will store all the data you'll ever use.
George Gilder on the dawning of the petabyte age
.

Although the evergreen mazes, mountain majesties, and always-on skiing surely play a role, two amenities in particular make this the perfect site for a next-gen data center. One is a fiber-optic hub linked to Harbour Pointe, Washington, the coastal landing base of PC-1, a fiber-optic artery built to handle 640 Gbps that connects Asia to the US. A glassy extension cord snakes through all the town's major buildings, tapping into the greater Internet though NoaNet, a node of the experimental Internet2. The other attraction is The Dalles Dam and its 1.8‑gigawatt power station. The half-mile-long dam is a crucial source of cheap electrical power – once essential to aluminum smelting, now a strategic resource in the next phase in the digital revolution. Indeed, Google and other Silicon Valley titans are looking to the Columbia River to supply ceaseless cycles of electricity at about a fifth of what they would cost in the San Francisco Bay Area. Why? To feed the ravenous appetite of a new breed of computer.

If it's necessary to waste memory and bandwidth to dominate the petascale era, gorging on energy is an inescapable cost of doing business. Ask.com operations VP Dayne Sampson estimates that the five leading search companies together have some 2 million servers, each shedding 300 watts of heat annually, a total of 600 megawatts. These are linked to hard drives that dissipate perhaps another gigawatt. Fifty percent again as much power is required to cool this searing heat, for a total of 2.4 gigawatts. With a third of the incoming power already lost to the grid's inefficiencies, and half of what's left lost to power supplies, transformers, and converters, the total of electricity consumed by major search engines in 2006 approaches 5 gigawatts.

IBM's Power 7 supports Petaflops

http://supercomputingonline.com/article.php?sid=12519

These DARPA initiatives will propel IBM to far exceed the traditional 2X performance improvement over 18 months," said Ravi Arimilli, IBM Fellow and Principal Investigator of POWER7 processor . "We are embarking on a bold journey to deliver a 100X improvement in sustained performance over 48 months with a simpler and easy to use platform. Harnessing the development capabilities of IBM towards this disruptive design will drive the frontiers of science and business.
500 people team moves Power 7 up, since April 2005 !.
Power 7 will run on Torrenza socket!

AMD's Torrenza.

Cray follows the Petaflops race with Cascade.
And probably with Torrenza sockets too.

Webster man shot while waiting to buy PlayStation 3

Police are searching for two men who shot a 21-year-old Webster man as they tried to rob customers waiting in line outside the Putnam Wal-Mart shortly after 3 a.m. to buy PlayStation 3s early today ! ! !.
Short supplies of the PS3 and strong demand led to lines of buyers, some waiting for days, outside stores across the country.

Someone seems couldn't wait for PS3 anymore, and commited a crime.
Anyway, take it as a 123rd Reason Not To Buy A PS3.
On the other side, it should have at least one reason to buy it: To Run Other OS.

AMD prepares 65nm launch for December!

Here is the first shoot of new 65nm AMD 4000+

AMD prepares 65nm launch for 5th December!. At this moment, probably thousands of 65nm Opterons are delivered for Cray XT4 Rainier supercomputer, as badhardware reported recently. Then, in 3Q2007 upgrade to K8L will follow.
Actually, K8L will have many of the features that made Conroe so fast:
- Double number of FP units
- Double width of SSE units
- Improved Branch Prediction and Prefetch
AMD on the other hand, is releasing its new 65nm parts at a max of only 2.8Ghz by Q2 2007 if recent information is to be believed.

100 teraflops by the end of this year, and again to 250 teraflops in 2007 or early 2008.
So why is Opteron role important there? 100 Tflops currently releases a lot of heat.
Just released, code named Hood supercomputer at NERSC consists of over 19,000 AMD Opteron 2.6-gigahertz processor cores, with two cores per socket making up one node. Each node has 4 gigabytes (4 billion bytes) of memory and a dedicated SeaStar connection to the internal network. The full system will consist of over 100 cabinets with 39 terabytes (39 trillion bytes) of aggregate memory capacity.
The Cray XT4 supercomputer is the first product in Cray's Rainier program.

The Cray XT4 supercomputer uses up to 30,000 AMD Opteron dual-core processors running a highly scalable operating system and interfaced to the Cray SeaStar2™ interconnect chip.
Just as predicted by badhardware.

AMD up, Intel down in supercomputers

Latest Top500 list to be announced on November 14th, finds the following:
AMD
dual core Opteron chips were used in 113 supercomputers or 22 percent ! of those on the latest list, up from just 11 percent a year ago.

Intel CPUs took their biggest decline ever, slumping from a high of use in 333 systems or a year ago to 261 or 52 percent of systems on the current list.

And the trend would probably extend further.

Of course, Intel hopes not. But, AMD has its plans too.
Especially with Dell.

Intel fires 6900 in the next 6 months !

10500 by the 2007 mid !. Let me calculate, 1600 already fired + 6900 until May gives 8500.
Then, after April 2007, yet 2000 Intel emplyees will get job termination notice bad joke.
Eh, that is a big company with a good product strategy in practice. But, no problems for some.

However, if you are a Jew, Intel still hires in Israel!.
Briefly, Intel fired almost complete AMD workforce.

Sadam's nuke disappeared again !

Sadam's nuke disappeared again !
Finally, a truth on his bad hardware.
Yeah we know that story. It was simply "undoubtly" there, just a days before US attack in 2003.
Then, when Sadam fell it mysteriously disappear for the first time. No one could find it, nor even any trace about it , for the whole three years, until scandalized Republicans didn't need some public support for the latest elections.
Then, nuke bomb story simply appeared in Jewish owned NYT. I mean, distinguished newspapers couldn't find anything until quite recently, days before the elections???.
Then when publicity was enough intruiged, bomb simply dissapeared for the second time, this time for govenrment's web portal, because the topic was so "hot" that someone could make a nuke at home reading it. Thus, we are now completely convinced? Well not quite.

Last night ABC News reported on five recently declassified documents captured in Iraq. One of these was a handwritten account of a February 19, 1995, meeting between an official representative of Iraq and Mr. bin Laden himself, where Mr. bin Laden broached the idea of "carrying out joint operations against foreign forces" in Saudi Arabia. The document, which has no official stamps or markers, reports that when Saddam was informed of the meeting on March 4, 1995 he agreed to broadcast sermons of a radical imam, Suleiman al Ouda, requested by Mr. bin Laden.

What is the problem with this "finding"? Radical islamists don't use paper in their deals, but honest word after they swear by Good. Thus, pretty hard to find any trace.

However, US Intelligence find it!

You could find at Internet a guide for nuke making, for some 10 years. And no one bothered?
Sadam wouldn't come close in this technical detail, even if he was able to stay in power for hundreds years ( time frame Republicans planned to stay in power too).
Any suggestion? Laughable, what else.

Laughable even more. Distinguished NYT finds the following:
Some intelligence officials feared that individual documents, translated and interpreted by amateurs, would be used out of context to second-guess the intelligence agencies’ view that Mr. Hussein did not have unconventional weapons or substantive ties to terrorism. Reviewing the documents for release would add an unnecessary burden on busy intelligence analysts, they argued.

But , withdrawed government document Postwar Findings about Iraq's WMD Programs and Links to Terrorism and How They Compare With Prewar Assessments, finds:

"Saddam Hussein was distrustful of al-Qaeda and viewed Islamic
extremists as a threat to his regime, refusing all requests from
al-Qaeda to provide material or operational support"

Until the 2003 attack, Sadam was simply a US friend in the Near East. Just like a King of Saudi Arabia is still.
Thus, can we call this tragedy of one, once upon time distinuguished, newspapers simply: Republican's bullshits?. Making the fools of all of US.
